Glow-worms, Goldmines, and Lovely Sea Views.
While on a Sunday drive around the Kuaotunu region of the Coromandel Peninsula, Whitianga couple, Dick and Ann, discovered a bush block for sale that has it all.
Sea views, bush walks, it’s own stream, glow-worm caves and abandoned goldmines are just some of the many features in and around this 4.4 hectare conservation block that first attracted the couples attention. Ann describes the property as a bird-lovers paradise and says you often hear kiwis and see many other species of birds around. Set in such an appealing location and with no lawns to tend to or neighbours looking over your fence, you can enjoy the stunning sea and bush views in total privacy. There are also abandoned goldmines on the block, one of which is close to the house and can be visited via meandering paths.
Planning the dream home took over two years as the couple wanted the house to blend in with it’s surroundings - from the outside cladding of solid natural timber, to the way the three level house nestles into the hillside. Making the most of indoor/outdoor living, this tranquil and sunny home is less than two years old.

Designed with a view to operating as a Bed and Breakfast, the house has TV and computer sockets in every bedroom, as well as a very quiet operating water lift to all three levels. Water is supplied to the house by two 25,000 litre water tanks which are filled by rainwater.
5 minutes from the sleepy beachside town of Kuaotunu, 15 minutes from thriving Whitianga, and with a school bus pickup from the bottom of the sweeping bush-set driveway, this happily situated home really is one in a million.
Keen to start a new project, the adventurous couple are now planning a move to Waipu, Northland, where Dick has fond memories of growing up and there are still strong family ties for them both.
