TAIRUA / PAUANUI

Fabulous twin harbour towns on the Peninsula's east coast, Tairua and Pauanui offer a superb setting beside the Pacific Ocean.  Close by is Paku, a twin-coned Maori pa sculptured hillside that was once an island while offshore lies the Slipper, Shoe and Alderman Islands.  A number of charter and fishing boats operate from both wharves and the beaches are perfect for safe swimming and surfing in most conditions. Tairua is the older of the two towns and originally a milling and farming community.  Across the water, is Pauanui, a purpose built holiday community that features the country's first canal housing development.

TAIRUA

Tairua is very close to several surf beaches and dive spots like the Alderman Islands. With an ocean beach idea which is great for surfing and soaking up the sun, or children can swim safely in the warm water of the sheltered harbour beaches.  Navigate the estuary and rivers by kayak, walk local bush tracks, listen to the tui’s sing. Dine in exquisite local cafes or take advantage of Tairua’s amenities.
Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, Hahei, Sailors Grave, Pauanui, Whangamata and Whitianga are all just a short drive away.

PAUANUI

Pauanui is one of New Zealand’s best known resort towns. Its white sandy beaches surrounded by green bush clad hills, and the magnificent fishing waters surrounding the Mercury Islands, Slipper Island, The Aldermans, Mayor Island and others, make Pauanui an ideal location for a permanent residence or holiday home. The township has its own airfield, tennis courts, golf courses, including the recently opened ING International Golf Course.
